Ron Hewins of ALF’s Cape Cod Chapter was presented with an ALF Len Hadley Volunteer Award during the American Lighthouse Foundation’s annual Lighthouse Gala, which was held at the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, Maine, on April 29, 2018.
ALF’s Cape Cod Chapter operates one of the finest overnight stay programs in the nation at Race Point Lighthouse – a distinction that would not be possible without a team of highly dedicated volunteers like Ron Hewins.
Ron is a long-time “keeper” for the overnight stay program and assists his wife Janice Hewins with the light station’s gift shop. He also is right there to help with facilitating public access to the historic site during the popular Mariner’s Day on Cape Cod each year.
True to the stellar volunteer spirit that we find throughout our organization, Ron does not limit his time and talents to a select number of tasks. Rather, he steps up and gives more whenever a need arises.
So just what are those other tasks Ron tackles or assists with? We are glad you are curious! He tracks vehicle use, lighthouse tour guests for walk-ups, scheduled tours, and frequent Art’s Dune Tours from May to October.
In addition, Ron tracks all volunteer hours at Race Point Lighthouse, helps fill-in for Whistle House guest check-ins and outs, and even steps up as a Piping Plover Escort when the Federal Government’s Essential Vehicle Management program is implanted during the nesting season.
We sincerely thank Ron Hewins for all of his passionate efforts at Race Point Lighthouse and are proud to honor him with a 2018 Len Hadley Volunteer Award!
