April 28, 2026: Portsmouth Harbor Light in New Castle, New Hampshire, is one of nearly two dozen historic lighthouses throughout New England serving as a host site for MotionInfo’s AIS-based network, StationKeeper. This technology is an innovative solution helping to protect the endangered North Atlantic right whale at a time when such efforts are needed most.

Of late, the StationKeeper unit at Portsmouth Harbor lost communication with MotionInfo’s monitoring system in Orleans, Massachusetts, which prompted representatives from the American Lighthouse Foundation and MotionInfo to meet-up at the historic light station to troubleshoot the equipment in the tower.
The work team included Moses Calouro and Portia Calouro from MotionInfo and Gary Childs, Ann-Marie Trapani and Bob Trapani, Jr. from the American Lighthouse Foundation.
In short order, the crew discovered the issue and subsequently repaired the unit. While on site, they also made some additional adjustments to the equipment. At the conclusion of their work, the work team left Portsmouth Harbor Light’s StationKeeper unit watching properly!
The 1878 light tower and 1903 oil house at Portsmouth Harbor are maintained by the American Lighthouse Foundation’s local chapter, Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse.
