Phelps Bristol of the American Lighthouse Foundation was honored with a Len Hadley Volunteer Award during the organization’s annual Gala, which was held at the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, Maine, on November 5, 2023.

Phelps Bristol has been a shining example for volunteerism at Owls Head Light since 2009. Phelps works one or more shifts nearly every week throughout the summer – and often volunteers for group tours at the site. He is one of the most knowledgeable volunteers visitors will encounter at the lighthouse.
Not only does Phelps know his stuff when it comes to the history of Owls Head Light and ALF’s preservation efforts, he is also very adept at answering visitor’s questions about the local area, including the best places to eat, cultural things to see and do, etc. His knowledge is enhanced by his many of years of service to the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce.
