Phelps Bristol of the Friends of Rockland Harbor Lights was presented with an ALF Len Hadley Volunteerism award during the American Lighthouse Foundation’s annual Gala, which was held at the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, Maine, on May 7, 2017.
Phelps Bristol has been a shining example for volunteerism at Owls Head Light since 2009, and recognition for his dedicated efforts is long over-due. Phelps works one or more shifts nearly every week throughout the summer, and is one of the most knowledgeable volunteers visitors will encounter at the lighthouse.
Not only does Phelps know his stuff when it comes to the history of Owls Head Light and ALF’s preservation efforts, he is also very adept at answering visitor’s questions about the local area, including the best places to eat, cultural things to see and do, etc. His knowledge is enhanced by his many of years of service to the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce.
In years past, Phelps also served as the volunteer coordinator at Owls Head Light. His care and commitment to the lighthouse makes him a valued volunteer and worthy recipient of a Len Hadley Volunteerism Award!
