Vicky Kozo of the Friends of Rockland Harbor Lights was presented with an ALF Len Hadley Volunteerism award during the American Lighthouse Foundation’s annual Gala, which was held at the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, Maine, on May 7, 2017.
Vicky Kozo was invaluable with helping the Friends of Rockland Harbor Lights open Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse on weekends during 2016 season. Vicky’s dedication, enthusiasm and people skills endeared her with fellow volunteers and visitors alike. She tallied the third-most volunteer hours at the lighthouse this past year, which meant a lot of walking out a long breakwater. The walk to the lighthouse is two miles round-trip and must often be undertaken during summer’s heat and fog.
Vicky also took it upon herself to reach out to other FRHL volunteers in an effort to fill shifts that were short a person so that the lighthouse could be open to visitors. She also served as the point-person on many occasions for ensuring that the gift shop money bag was brought to and from the light. Vicky’s passion and responsibility for Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse make her a worthy recipient of a Len Hadley Volunteerism Award!
