Friends of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse volunteer Gene Youtz was nominated for a 2013 ALF Len Hadley Volunteerism award as part of the American Lighthouse Foundation’s annual Lighthouse Gala, which was held at the Sheraton Portsmouth Harborside Hotel on May 4, 2013. FPPL Treasurer Caren Clark accepted the award on Gene’s behalf, who was unable to attend the event.
Gene is a summer resident of New Harbor, Maine, and has been volunteering as a docent at Pemaquid Point Lighthouse since the Friends of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse opened the tower to the public nine years ago.
Gene has committed himself to a regular slot in FPPL’s weekly schedule from June through October and shares his knowledge of history and lighthouses with all the visitors he meets. He has also contributed to our fundraising efforts by providing FPPL with posters of the Edward Hopper print of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse from the Portland Museum of Art.
Gene has a comfortable and informative way of greeting and engaging visitors at the lighthouse and is also very generous in sharing his insight with other volunteers. He has been reliable, resourceful and responsible in volunteering for the Friends of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, and his enjoyment of his work as a docent is obvious, as his loyalty to our chapter, which is greatly appreciated. Gene is very deserving of this recognition.
The American Lighthouse Foundation honors Gene Youtz as the Friends of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse’s 2013 ALF Len Hadley Volunteerism Award recipient.
Caren Clark says
Thank you Bob, Ann-Marie and volunteers of the American Lighthouse Foundation for making the GALA such an enjoyable event. It is always wonderful to share the food and entertainment in the company of so many generous lighhouse enthusiasts!
