The Friends of Wood Island Lighthouse enthusiastically recognizes Aaron Fox as its 2013 Volunteer of the Year.   In doing so, we acknowledge his years of dedicated commitment to FOWIL and the extraordinary talents he brings to our group technologically and artistically.

Aaron is the guardian of our “brand.”  His work distinguishes us and is evident in any visual presentation of who FOWIL is.  He designed and regularly upgrades the appearance and performance of our website.  He produces attractive brochures and other handouts we present to guests and local businesses promoting our group and its accomplishments.   Most notably, his design of the invitation and related materials for our very successful reception for the lighthouse last summer set the elegant tone of the evening.

Like all of our very dedicated volunteers, Aaron is a model of the breed.   He gets it done! If you come up with the idea that a special FOWIL 10th Anniversary letter might go to our more than 300-person mailing list on the anniversary date – a mere 10 days away – take it to Aaron.  And then add to the idea that it would be great to have a glossy colored tri-fold of pictures and noteworthy events of the decade to include in the letter.  Give Aaron a sense of what is needed, and sit back and watch.  Without fuss or further word, a stunning package gets produced and is singlehandedly mailed on time.

Beyond those visible and high-impact contributions, Aaron works equally hard behind the scenes as a member of our Executive Committee; as the willing and diligent keeper of our membership roles and as the person who issues tax-time acknowledgement letters to our donors.  And, if there is a workday on the island or need for manpower for any task, Aaron is present and accounted for as a reliable and enthusiastic participant.

For his talents and his tireless commitment, the Friends of Wood Island Lighthouse applaud and recognize Aaron Fox the chapter’s 2013 ALF Len Hadley Volunteerism Award recipient.

Dedicated volunteers like Aaron Fox of FOWIL are not only helping to preserve lighthouse history, their efforts also enable the public to journey out to Wood Island for a one-of-a-kind experience at the historic light station (Photo by Bob Trapani, Jr.)
