The American Lighthouse Foundation and its local chapter, Friends of Rockland Harbor Lights, invite the public to join them Friday, June 22, 2012 for a lighthouse sunset cruise along beautiful Penobscot Bay, which will feature seven Midcoast guiding lights.

The cruise is a wonderful opportunity for participants to enjoy a close-up view of Browns Head and Goose Rock lighthouses in the Fox Islands Thorofare, as well as Heron Neck Lighthouse near the island of Vinalhaven and the remote Saddleback Ledge Lighthouse at the entrance to East Penobscot Bay.

Participants will also be treated to views of Rockland Breakwater and Owls Head lighthouses, which are under the care of ALF’s Friends of Rockland Harbor Lights, with Rockland Harbor Southwest Light rounding out the list of seven beacons to be seen on the cruise.

The four-and-a-half-hour sunset cruise will depart the public landing in Rockland at 4:30 p.m. aboard the P/V Elizabeth Ann. Tickets are $40 per person, reservations are recommended. A cash bar, light fare and desserts will be offered onboard. Tickets can be purchased at the American Lighthouse Foundation Gift Store and Interpretative Center, located at 464 Main Street in Rockland, online at www.lighthousefoundation.org or www.rocklandharborlights.org, or by calling 207-594-4174.

The sunset cruise is a featured highlight of the 2012 Midcoast Maine Lighthouse Challenge event, which will take place over the weekend of June 23 and 24.
