Tour Little River Lighthouse

A Downeast Maine Treasure…

Located on a 15-acre island in Cutler, Maine, Little River Lighthouse is the quintessential Maine island lighthouse experience.

The Friends of Little River Lighthouse, a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation, offers special Open Houses, in addition to the site’s overnight stay program during the summer season, so that the general public can have the opportunity to visit and enjoy the island light station. Boat transportation to the island from Cutler Harbor is provided.

Upon arrival at the island you will take a beautiful, half-mile walk across a tree-lined, wooden plank walkway to the lighthouse overlooking the Gulf of Maine. Enjoy a tour of the keeper’s house and don’t miss the souvenirs available for purchase while you are there, which help the Friends of Little River Lighthouse continue to preserve this one-of-a-kind site!

Cost:

There is no admission fee for the open houses, but donations are greatly appreciated! All proceeds help FLRL to continue caring for this historic site and providing opportunities for you to enjoy this special place in the future.

Tour FAQs:

• Please note: For safety reasons, scheduled open houses may be cancelled due to high winds, dense fog, heavy rain, or rough seas – please contact FLRL at (877) 276-4682 if you are unsure.
• Children must have their own life jackets.
• Be prepared to climb in and out of the boat.
• The walk across the island is approximately a 1/2 mile and includes a decent incline.

Directions:

Little River Lighthouse is located just off shore of Cutler, Maine on a small island. The lighthouse is not visible from the shore. When in Machias, ME turn onto 191 to Cutler. Cutler harbor is about 5 miles past the old Cutler Navy Base.

Boats to the island for open houses depart from the town boat ramp on Wharf Road. Please do not walk out on the piers along harbor. They are private property.
