When it comes to “bringing” an offshore lighthouse to the mainland, no one does a better job than ALF’s Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse!

This dedicated group is consistently finding ways to interact with the general public – educating people about the history of the 1871 Pomham Rocks Lighthouse in Narragansett Bay, sharing accomplishments related to present day preservation efforts at the site and inspiring others to get involved as a volunteer at Pomham Rocks.
Here is one way the Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse continue to have a meaningful impact in the Riverside community in Rhode Island.
The following update was submitted by Judianne Point, American Lighthouse Foundation 1st Vice-President and Board Member at Large for ALF’s chapter, Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse.

A Pomham Rocks license plate adorned each vehicle representing the lighthouse in the parade. FPRL volunteer Patty Louro is shown walking in the parade with her husband – Brian Louro, driving the car next to her.

Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse kicked off Memorial Day in style as volunteers marched and rode in the annual Riverside, RI Memorial Day Parade on May 26, 2025. Each car representing the lighthouse sported a new Pomham Rocks license plate while the volunteers handed out information about the organization and how to obtain the new plate. Parade coordinators Patty Louro and Sandy Davignon did a wonderful job. The FPRL tour season is also beginning this week, starting with a new addition – Tuesday evening tours. So much to look forward to!
