On January 29, 2024, Rob Caldwell, popular host of News Center Maine’s 207 program, talked with American Lighthouse Foundation’s Executive Director, Bob Trapani, Jr., and Ford Reiche, owner of Halfway Rock Lighthouse in Casco Bay, about the recent storm damage at Maine’s lighthouses.

The show aired on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. Watch the segment on News Center Maine here…

During the interview, Rob Caldwell discussed with Ford Reiche and Bob Trapani, Jr. topics such as the lack of disaster relief funding for nonprofit lighthouse stewards, how flood insurance is essentially unattainable for light station structures, the ongoing impact of climate change at lighthouses and what can be done to help these irreplaceable historic sites.

The American Lighthouse Foundation is working to raise public awareness for the plight of Maine’s lighthouses and being proactive with lighthouse stewards in obtaining storm damage information that will help with the development of best practices for storm preparation and future hazard mitigation.

207 is a nightly news magazine show on News Center Maine hosted by Rob Caldwell & Samantha York telling in-depth stories of Maine, weeknights at 7 pm. www.newscentermaine.com/207
