As any year draws to a close, it is often a time of reflection and the valuing of blessings. The American Lighthouse Foundation (ALF) is doing just that as 2023 winds down – reflecting upon and appreciating the wonderful tenure of our organization’s long-time board President, Jeremy D’Entremont.
In November, Jeremy D’Entremont decided it was time for him to step down as President of ALF’s Board of Directors so that he could set his sights on new horizons with both his professional and personal aspirations. With big shoes to fill, Nick Korstad was elected as the new board President on December 28, 2023.
In total, Jeremy served as board President for ten years, during which time the American Lighthouse Foundation continued to excel at the preservation and adaptive reuse of the organization’s numerous historic light stations. Overall, Jeremy served on the ALF board of directors since the late 1990s, and was the founder of ALF’s chapter, Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouses.
The American Lighthouse Foundation will miss Jeremy’s leadership, but more importantly, his genuine and caring ways. As many will attest to, Jeremy D’Entremont is considered a dear friend to those he crosses paths with in the lighthouse community. He freely shares his knowledge of lighthouse history, which is quite extensive, and always endeavors to lend a helping hand to any preservation project seeking best practices or external resources.
Few people can ever match Jeremy’s combined achievements in researching lighthouse history, educating and entertaining the public with said history, making a real difference with preserving our lighthouses and authoring a plethora of books about lighthouses that will no doubt help “show the way” for future generations. Jeremy was presented with ALF’s prestigious Keeper of the Light award in April 2019 for such accomplishments, which have impacted the national lighthouse community in big ways.
For the American Lighthouse Foundation, Jeremy D’Entremont has set a gold standard – and his contributions to our organization will stand the test of time. So too will his friendship, which will remain firmly in place even as he transitions to new opportunities.
So THANK YOU Jeremy D’Entremont! Thank you for your service to the American Lighthouse Foundation – to its numerous lighthouse projects, staff and volunteers. What an amazing run it has been. As the American Lighthouse Foundation prepares to celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2024, please know that you made a lasting difference with your efforts and as a “guiding light” to others. We have the watch and will keep the lights shining!
