Lighthouse Sunset Cruise to benefit Rockland Breakwater & Owls Head Lights

By: American Lighthouse Foundation Published: June 1, 2013

The Friends of Rockland Harbor Lights and the American Lighthouse Foundation invite the public to join them Friday, June 28, 2013 for a lighthouse sunset cruise along the coastal waters from Port Clyde to Boothbay Harbor, which will feature six Midcoast guiding lights as the evening’s “star” attractions.

This fun-filled experience is a great opportunity for participants to enjoy a close-up view of the remote Franklin Island Lighthouse in Muscongus Bay, as well as a chance to admire the iconic Pemaquid Point Lighthouse from the water, whose likeness adorns the Maine State quarter.

The cruise will also include opportunities to view and photograph Ram Island, Burnt Island and Cuckolds lighthouses in the beautiful Boothbay region – and the popular Marshall Point Lighthouse too; all the while learning of some fascinating history about these sentinels during the narrated evening event.

The sunset cruise is a joint fundraiser for the Friends of Rockland Harbor Lights and the chapter’s parent organization, the American Lighthouse Foundation. Proceeds from the cruise will benefit the ongoing restoration of Rockland Breakwater and Owls Head lighthouses, including the keeper’s house at Owls Head, which is the new home for the American Lighthouse Foundation and now open to the general public as an educational interpretive center.

The four-and-a-half-hour sunset cruise will depart from the Monhegan Boat Landing in Port Clyde at 4:30 p.m. aboard the Monhegan Boat Line’s P/V Elizabeth Ann. Tickets are $40 per person and reservations are recommended. A cash bar, light fare and desserts will be offered onboard. Tickets can be purchased at the American Lighthouse Foundation Interpretative Center and Gift Store, located at Owls Head Light Station in Owls Head, online at www.lighthousefoundation.org or by calling 207-594-4174.
