Lighthouse Sunset Cruise a Fun Way to Celebrate the Last Weekend of Summer

By: American Lighthouse Foundation Published: August 28, 2012

The Friends of Rockland Harbor Lights and the American Lighthouse Foundation invite the public to join them Friday, September 14, 2012 for a lighthouse sunset cruise featuring five Midcoast guiding lights.

Franklin Island

The September 14th sunset cruise offers a great opportunity to photograph Franklin Island Lighthouse in Muscongus Bay (Photo by Bob Trapani, Jr.)

The cruise is a wonderful opportunity for participants to enjoy a close-up view of seldom-seen Franklin Island Lighthouse in Muscongus Bay, as well as Two Bush and Whitehead Island lighthouses in Penobscot Bay, and Tenants Harbor and Marshall Point lighthouses in the St. George area.

The funds raised during the lighthouse sunset cruise will help the lighthouse preservation and education mission of the American Lighthouse Foundation and its local chapter, Friends of Rockland Harbor Lights, which cares for Rockland Breakwater and Owls Head lighthouses.

The three-and-a-half-hour sunset cruise will depart Port Clyde (Monhegan Boat Line pier) at 4:00 p.m. aboard the P/V Elizabeth Ann. Tickets are $35 per person, reservations are recommended. A cash bar, light fare and desserts will be offered onboard. Tickets can be purchased at the American Lighthouse Foundation Gift Store and Interpretative Center, located at 464 Main Street in Rockland, online at www.lighthousefoundation.org or www.rocklandharborlights.org, or by calling 207-594-4174.
