Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse Grateful for Ongoing Community Support

The Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse continue to make good things happen when it comes to preservation and education.

Their dedication is not only ensuring the restoration and ongoing maintenance of the 1871 Pomham Rocks Lighthouse, the group also remains steadfast in their efforts to share the history and importance of this majestic beacon with the young and old alike through educational outreach, events and programs.

Over the past two years alone, the Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse (FPRL), a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation have contracted Abcore Restoration Company to repaint the exterior of the wooden sentinel and OSM Marine to carry out vital enhancements to the dock and landing facility at the island.

But like any lighthouse, such projects require the ongoing financial support of the local community and lighthouse enthusiasts everywhere in order to keep a vigilant watch over this offshore historic site.

To this end, one of the fundraising initiatives that FPRL carried out this summer was a fun and exciting raffle, which contained a number of outstanding prizes. By the time the raffle concluded, the effort raised another $2,400 for Pomham Rocks Lighthouse.

Winners of the raffle were picked during a recent FPRL meeting, which featured a guest speaker who presented an interesting program on the science of predicting hurricanes.

David Kelleher, vice-chairman for the Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse also made special mention of the fact that FRPL committee member Joe Estrella not only put a lot of time and effort into making the raffle successful, he also sold the most tickets.

Hats off to Joe for his good work – and thanks to all the members of FPHL for their ongoing commitment to Pomham Rocks Lighthouse!
