The Friends of Wood Island will be hosting the Coastal Reflections art auction on July 12th, 2015. Attendees will have the opportunity to bid on a variety of paintings depicting the southern Maine coast. The auction will help benefit the restoration work at Wood Island Lighthouse.

Feature Presentation: “The Lightkeepers’ Menagerie... Stories of Animals at Lighthouses” with author Elinor DeWire. Enjoy a heartwarming journey to visit animals that lived at yesterday’s lighthouses. Hear tales of happiness and sadness, courage and comedy, even silly adventures and escapades. This “bright” menagerie will bring a tear to your eye or a smile to your lips, and fill you with mirth, amazement, and wonder. Sometimes, fur, feathers, and fins tell the best stories of all!
Come join us on June 4, 2016, from 1 to 5 p.m., for a symposium at the Kittery Lions Club, Kittery, Maine. Russ Lane, Jr., will present his video documentary “Looking for a Hero”; Marian Gagnon of Goodnight Irene Productions will present her video documentary , “America’s Forgotten Heroine: Ida Lewis, Keeper of the Light”; 3) Frederick Mikkelsen will give a presentation on his days (1958-60) as a Coast Guard lighthouse keeper, entitled, “Checked Main Light – Lighthouse Life in the 1950s”; and more.
Join us for “Brilliant Beacons,” a multimedia presentation by award-wining author Eric Jay Dolin on Saturday, June 25th at the Samoset Resort (220 Warrenton St, Rockport, ME 04856) beginning at 7 pm. Hear the dramatic story of these soaring coastal sentinels, using imagery to illuminate the beauty and grandeur of America’s lighthouses.
In addition, the evening event will include a silent auction filled with great items and light refreshments. There is a $5 suggested donation that will benefit ALF/ FRHL’s lighthouse preservation mission.
