SUMMARY:7 Lighthouse Cruise - Featuring Maine's Matinicus Rock + Puffins (#1)
DESCRIPTION:Due to the threat of rain and rough sea conditions\, we have cancelled the 7 Lighthouse Cruise scheduled for June 28. \nHowever\, we do have the same 7 Lighthouse Cruise scheduled for July 12. This is when the adult puffins are busy bringing food back to the nest\, so we should get some great views of the birds on this trip as well. Hope to see you there! \nThis is the first of five exclusive boat trips the American Lighthouse Foundation has partnered with Camden Harbor Cruises for in 2025 – come along and see some of the offshore lighthouses in Midcoast Maine! \nJoin us on Saturday\, June 28th for a special 8-hour cruise aboard the Camden Harbor Cruise’s vessel\, Periwinkle to see 7 lighthouses in southern Penobscot Bay\, including Matinicus Rock. Lighthouses you will see include: Curtis Island\, Indian Island\, Rockland Breakwater\, Owls Head\, Browns Head\, Heron Neck\, and Matinicus Rock.  You will also be able to view nesting Atlantic Puffins at Matinicus Rock Lighthouse\, which is part of the Maine Coastal Islands Wildlife Refuge! \nWe will depart from the Camden Public Landing at 8:00am aboard the Camden Harbor Cruises’ vessel Periwinkle. We will return to the dock around 4:00pm. \nMatinicus Rock Lighthouse \nWe will spend approximately 30 minutes cruising around Matinicus Rock\, which will provide ample time to view puffins and other nesting seabirds on the island. We will also cruise by Browns Head\, Heron Neck\, Owls Head\, Rockland Breakwater\, Indian Island\, and Curtis Island lighthouses for close-up views during the trip. \nIn addition to the narration provided by the crew of the Periwinkle\, an American Lighthouse Foundation representative will be onboard to share interesting lighthouse facts and tidbits. \nTicket Price: $225 per person. It can be cool out on the water\, even during the summer\, so we recommend you bring a sweatshirt or light jacket. Sunblock\, hat and sunglasses are recommended too. Lastly\, be sure to have your camera or binoculars! \nWhere do we park? \nThe town of Camden has two all-day parking lots: one is on Washington Street just past the fire station on the right\, and the other is on Atlantic Avenue just past the Camden Public Library\, on the left. Both are within walking distance of the public landing. \nIs there a bathroom onboard? \nYes\, there is a flushable toilet (or ‘head’ if you’re a mariner) on Periwinkle.

Items include lighthouse overnight stays\, prints\, gift baskets and more!  \nJoin us at the beautiful Nonantum Resort in historic Kennebunkport for an afternoon of celebrating this year’s Keeper of the Light and Len Hadley Volunteer Awardees as well as “fun-raising” for our mission. Enjoy a delicious dinner prepared by the Nonantum Chef with  your choice of Prime Rib au Jus\, Baked Haddock or; Chicken Florentine. \n\nAs you enjoy dessert\, our special guest Peter Ralston will wow you with “Reflections on the Coast and Islands”…an overview of 45 years of intimate exploration and activity along Maine’s grand coast and archipelago\, with many lighthouse images and anecdotes along the way.  \nPeter Ralston grew up in Chadd’s Ford\, Pennsylvania\, worked for a decade as a freelance photojournalist and then began photographing the coast of Maine in 1978\, drawn especially to the working communities that define the coast’s enduring character. His work has been seen in many books and magazines\, featured on network television and has been exhibited in galleries\, collections and museums throughout the United States and abroad. In 2003 he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree at Colby College for his photography as well as his role as co-founder of the Island Institute in which capacity he conceived the Maine Lights Program. He and his wife\, Terri\, opened Ralston Gallery in Rockport\, Maine\, in 2011\, selling his photographs as well as the work of his lifelong friends\, Andrew and Jamie Wyeth.
